Some previous Questions and Answers which may be of interest

Q: I have a dry, south-facing garage wall that I would like to make more attractive with a bed of drought-tolerant plants. What would you recommend?

A: We'd suggest planting several tall ornamental grasses, such as Miscanthus or Festuca Gigantea, along the wall, with a grouping of medium-height grasses in front of them, such as Festuca Festinia. Then, if there's room, a group of low grasses in front of those. We'd suggest some interesting colour variations; some of the low grasses, for instance, have some striking blue foliage, such as Andropogon Magellenicus and Festuca Elijah Blue. Many grasses thrive in poor growing conditions, and they tend to be very low maintenance.

Q: I would like to plant an evergreen tree at my house. I'm looking for something unusual and striking that is low maintenance. The soil is well-drained and it will be in partial shade.

A: We'd suggest a Concolor Fir. The hardiest ones have a spectacular blue colour, not unlike a Blue Spruce and they exude a beautiful citrus aroma. They're disease-resistant, deer don't eat them and they form a full, conical shape without pruning.
